Plot Details Emerge As Production Begins On Clash Of The Titans 2

It doesn’t matter whether you agree with the decision to put the upcoming Clash of the Titans sequel through a post-production 3D conversion. It’s happening and that’s that. We may as well get past it and simply wait to snicker when people once again complain of headaches … or be proven completely wrong when those complaints never come and quietly shuffle away.

A press release announced today the production has officially begun on the Jonathan Liebesman-directed follow-up. Previous reports had pegged the title as Wrath of the Titans, but it seems now that it has been changed to Clash of the Titans 2. It also seems that star Gemma Arterton will not be returning, likely because she recently booked a role in Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters.

The press release also provides a synopsis, our first real detail on where this sequel will take things:

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus—the demigod son of Zeus—is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius. Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld.

Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramírez), switch loyalty and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth. Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon’s demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

'Clash of the Titans 2' Starts Production, Plot Released

The sequel to last year's Clash of the Titans began shooting this week under the helm of its new director Jonathan Liebesman. And with the production start, Warner Bros. has sent out a press release signaling the event. This type of release isn't anything new, but there were a few interesting bits in this specific one. First, the project which has been referred to thus far as Wrath of the Titans is now just being called Clash of the Titans 2. And secondly, Clash's co-star Gemma Arterton will not be returning to reprise her role of Io as she is committed to Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Plot Synopsis:

Could be good, as long as the script is solid. Which is a lot to ask for considering there were more writers on this thing than I have teams left in my NCAA Tournament Bracket. While I didn't hate Liebesman's as much as most, the problems in the film's writing were too much for the director to overcome. So I'm worried that might be the case again here with Clash 2, as Liebesman still hasn't proven he can produce anything worthwhile from a bad script. My only hope is that the studio learned its lesson last year when the script issues and reworking of Clash 1 literally killed the film.

The Clash of the Titans

The Clash of the Titans, which is referred as Wraith of the Titans is finally moving forward as Warner Brothers has finally set a production schedule and released a plot synopsis. Battle: Los Angeles director Jonathan Liebesman will sit on the director’s chair, which was previously helmed by Louis Leterrier. WB has released a press release detailing all the important info for the sequel. One of the notable names on the list that is missing is that of Gemma Arterton is missing.

While the first film suffered major script issues and post 3D production issues, Liebesman will have a chance to correct all of that, despite Battle: Los Angeles having a mixed reaction with audiences.

Humans, gods, and demi-gods alike are set to mix it up once again in next year’s Wrath of the Titans, also known as Clash of the Titans 2. Sam Worthington will be back in armor as Perseus, mortal son of Zeus (Liam Neeson) and defender of humankind, along with Oscar-nominee Ralph Fiennes as the diabolical Lord of the Underworld, Hades.

Principal photography has commenced overseas on the Clash of the Titans sequel, which it seems will not feature the return of Gemma Arterton as Io, after all. That makes sense, though, given that the actress will be in Germany for Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters over the next several months.
